We all know Fairlop Waters as the start point of the London to Southend Car Run, but I suspect that most (me included) were unaware of its far more poignant past as an aerodrome during
both world wars.
Hainault Farm was in use by the Royal Flying Corps (later Royal Air Force) from 1915—1919, with Forest Farm being used as a Royal Navy Air Station from 1916—1918 and the RAF from 1918—1919.
